Things to Do
Maui's various attractions and activities cater to just about every interest. While adventurers hike the dormant Haleakala volcano or fly above it on a helicopter tour, more relaxed travelers can soak up the sun on one of many shorelines or test the fairways at one of the island's 14 golf courses. But Maui isn't just for great beaches and incredible golf courses. The island offers up its own history and culture at sites like Iao Valley State Park, Banyan Tree Park and the Old Lahaina Luau. Those traveling with kids can learn all about Hawaii's underwater residents at the Maui Ocean Center
Our condo is just steps away from the beach known as Pohaku Beach Park. Locals often find their way there for "pau hana" (after work) relaxation as the sunset from this location is one you don’t want to miss.
Kahana Beach is a very popular beach for locals and water sports enthusiasts. Beautiful, long, two-mile sandy beach with incredible views of the West Maui Mountains. Among the best kiteboarding and windsurfing on the planet! Full facilities, camping, fishing, canoeing, surfing and family gatherings/picnicking. Only a few minutes’ walk from our condo!
Ka’anapali Beach runs from Black Rock to Canoe Beach, fronted by seven resorts, Whalers Village Mall, and many fine shops & restaurants. The beach itself is amazing. Long, wide and sandy, with a gradual depth decline and great swimming. Black Rock offers cliff jumping and cliff-jumper watching (be careful!). There is also a long concrete walk that you can stroll along as you meander between shops, eats, drinks, sunset, and the beach. It’s about an 8-minute drive from our condo.
Kapalua Bay Beach in 2018, Kapalua Bay gained worldwide attention by being ranked “America’s Best Beach.” With picturesque views, palm trees, golden sand and excellent swimming conditions, this is the kind of beach that comes to mind when you think of Hawaii. It’s about an 8-minute drive from our condo.
Road to Hana: To enjoy the beautiful views of Maui’s coastline, you will need a vehicle. The Road to Hana is a scenic highway (Highway 360) that twists through the lush rainforest and past the cascading waterfalls that line the island's eastern shore. The trip isn't always easy. The route often surprises unfamiliar drivers with hairpin turns. But those who decide to step on the gas aren't sorry they did. Despite all the hype and mental preparation, travelers are regularly surprised by the drive's beauty. The Road to Hana might seem short in distance, but traveling it will most likely take all day given the number of scenic lookouts and other places to stop. Those who have driven the Road to Hana highly recommend taking your time and stopping as often as possible. We also recommend starting your drive early in the morning, as the road grows congested as the day progresses. There are several notable photo opportunities along the way, including the Twin Falls around the 2-mile marker (driving from Kahului to Hana); and the Wailea Overlook or Waikani Falls around the 21-mile marker. Waianapanapa State Park and Hookipa Beach are also popular stops. Since the trip will take you awhile, pack snacks and a cooler with drinks. Also, some travelers note that the winding route can wreak havoc on those prone to motion sickness –make sure to take it slow and allow for plenty of time outside the car. There is no cost to drive along the highway.TIP: Consider downloading and installing an app “Shaka Maui”.
